About us

Welcome to the Bristol and West Jewish Congregation

A friendly and welcoming congregation

The Bristol and West Progressive Jewish Congregation is a friendly and welcoming congregation. Our Synagogue is in Bristol, although our members live in a wide area of the South West of England and South Wales. We are affiliated with the national Liberal Judaism movement.

Background

Our Rabbi is Rabbi Monique Mayer but we are lucky to have expert lay-leaders who often take the services. Shabbat evening services are on zoom only and Shabbat morning services are in-person and zoom. We hold community dinners four times a year on Erev Shabbat and they are a good opportunity to get to know everyone. We have a full year programme of events including celebrating all Jewish festivals. We have a thriving Religion School for children as well as learning opportunities for all other members of the community. Preparation for Bar or Bat Mitzvah is supplemented by additional individual tuition. Upstairs we have a library of over 1000 books as well as a children’s library.

If you have any questions or would like to visit, please contact membership@bwpjc.org

Shop

The Judaica Shop stocks a wide range of Jewish books, cards and artefacts. If something you are looking for is not in stock, we will most probably be able to order it.

Accessibility

Currently, all of the building except for the upstairs classrooms is wheelchair accessible and we also have an induction loop for those using a hearing aid.

All food at the Synagogue is vegetarian or permitted fish.
